About

The Socialist Labour Alliance was started in 1970 by the Socialist Labour Action Group (comprised of members of the Labour Party) seeking an overt left-wing programme. Its first conference took place in 1971 and saw interest and affiliation from a range of groups and individuals, including People’s Democracy, the League for a Workers Republic, the Young Socialists and the Waterford Socialist Movement. Many involved went on to found both the Socialist Workers’ Movement and the Revolutionary Marxist Group.
